Effect of pyrolysis conditions on chemical properties of carbonized rice husks for efficient NH4+ adsorption

Abstract Ammonium ions (NH 4 + ) are commonly found in contaminated water and a contributing factor to eutrophication. Carbonized rice husk, derived from various biomass sources, possesses porous structure, its characteristics influenced by the feedstock pyrolysis conditions. Hence, this study aimed investigate applicability of carbonized husk as an absorbent for NH removal. The adsorption kinetics were analyzed using Pseudo-first-order Pseudo-second-order models, while assessed Langmuir Freundlich isotherms. rate increased until 240 min then gradually approached equilibrium state. Notably, highest was observed pH 7.1 36.045 mg/g∙min.
